So, I'm becoming curious. Looking through Volume 1 of my U.S. albums the other day, those empty pages for the Farleys and the National Parks inperfs just stand out like a sore thumb among all the filled pages surrounding them. What would any of these set me back, realistically? I can accept the empty pages leading up to the 1922 series. I'll probably never be able to afford most of those. But those empty pages of National Parks and Farleys...maybe, maybe not. Can I assume they are all pretty much out of reach of my limited budget? The cheapest way to fix this....remove the pages. LOL. Believe me, I've thought of this. Unfortunately, I'm so anal-retentive, the skips in the page numbers would drive me crazy. That's the only thing that stopped me.

I don't get the allure of the gutter pairs. It seems like a dealer manufactured item to me. I think I do need to do some more research on these and learn more. The imperf singles are just cut from the different souvenir sheets, correct? Or are there singles that didn't come from souvenir sheets?

Yesterday I received in the mail a packet from one of my globe-trotting friend. She was just in London for a week, and she pick up for me a bunch of new stuff from Royal Mail! I got the set of 6 stamps commemorating British engineering, the Harrier jet mini sheet, and the D-Day anniversary presentation pack. Nice stuff!

I agree with the thought that people come with a single question, and they are not really collectors. When people find out I'm a collector, they always want to know what I've got that's worth a lot of money. Hard to explain to them that it's not about that. My daughter is a good example. She's already told me that when I'm gone, she'll be selling off my collection in short order. I'm currently "auditioning" various grandkids, nieces, and nephews in the family to see who might be a candidate to inherit my collection some day. I want that to happen...not for all my time and effort to be just sold off. I want one of these kids to take and continue what I've done...expand it. Don't know if any of you frequent any Facebook stamp pages. They get a LOT of people popping up asking the old "what's this worth, am I rich?" questions. And then they disappear, usually with rude comments because they don't believe the advice they'd been given.

I'll admit...97% was a guess. It was a while ago when I last printed any of them. I think if you play with the scale, you'll be pleased. And yes, I like the blue borders as well. It's made a good looking album for me.

When I print them, I scale the pages to...if I remember correctly...97%. They fit on letter size well enough to suit me. And it doesn't shrink the boxes too much to be a problem.

A nice lot of pre 1900 Germany, France, Italy, all Europe, actually. About 30 or so stamps.

I kinda thought so. He was asking $20. I had bought some stamps from him, so I asked him if he'd go $15, it was all the cash I had left at the time.

I picked up a 2016 Unitrade catalog earlier this year from a dealer at a show. It cost me $15, and it's been a great resource. I think I got a good deal.

So, what do I have here? I'm not terribly well versed on these small queens yet. I know it's a 37, but beyond that, I need help. It measures a 12.5 perf on all sides, but I'm not going to kid myself that I have the valuable variety shown in my Unitrade catalog with that perf. It appears to be the wrong color for that anyway.

I've been sorting through a lot I received over the weekend of Canada...lots of plate (inscription?) blocks, BOB, and some varied SINGLE mint stamps to replace used copies in my albums. Fun new stuff, and some stuff I'll probably offer up for trade. I'm in the process of transferring Canada stamps from an old Harris album to a new album of Steiner pages. I came to hate that Harris album. It ended around 2000, and it was disorganized. Stamp images in the wrong place, duplicate stamp locations on different pages due to supplements being added in poorly before it was shipped to me (and I bought it new!). And the pages are so damn thin. Ugh. I printed the new album on card stock. 3 volumes but that's ok.
I probably ought to get that 2017 supplement into my U.S. album sometime soon.

I have also been creating my own WW album. I lean towards the continent approach, but I'm only creating pages as needed. I won't have a bunch of pages for countries that I don't have or never will have a stamp for. For the time being it's alphabetical as I continue to create pages, but in the end, I plan to group them by continent. WW is not a main pursuit for me. My main interests are, in order, U.S., Canada, and then Great Britain (a recent new sand-alone collection). I have currently 6 volumes of U.S.(Mystic), 4 of Canada (Steiner...I need 2017!), and 3 of GB (I found a great album to download that's UK in origin). I anticipate that my WW will go two, and possibly a third binder. I simply use Steiner's blank page that allows me to type a country name at the top and print whatever I need.

Do they still do standing orders, do you know? I used to have a standing order with a dealer for Canada stamps, but that only lasted from 2005 to 2008 until he retired. Might be something for me to investigate.

So I have a friend currently in England, who was game to hit a post office and get me some stamps. However, the ones I requested were not available. I suppose I should have told her that I'll take anything they have, since I collect them all, but she was following my request. So she texted me that she struck out, unfortunately.
My question is...how easy is it to order stamps from Royal Mail's website for delivery to the U.S.? I struggle to get any new issues, and that might be the way I get them. I just haven't tried yet. Am I able to order stamps from here in the states?

I picked up one of those at the Smithsonian on a class trip 40 years ago. It came with two-sided tape on the back, and I adhered it to the inside front cover of my Harris Ambassador album back then. Still have it (the pewter stamp, not the Ambassador album).

I may have mentioned it in another post, but I came into a couple of older collections a few years back that I'm slowly going through. They were both gifted to me, as they were collections owned by parents of a couple of friends of mine. so, I'm now the proud owner of 3 big, fat, Scott International albums. I have a Volume 1 from 1947 or 48, and Volumes 1 and 2 from 1955. the two volume 1 binders are chock full of worldwide stamps, that seem to be mainly 1870s to roughly 1930. Many are mint/unused, although there were mostly hinged ( a few are in clear mounts). I'm still trying to decipher what volume 2 contains.
I'm overwhelmed by it all, and I don't know what to look for that's extra special. I love old engraved stamps, so it's quite a treasure trove, and there are some homely ones in there, too. My question is...is there anything in particular I should be on the lookout for? My favorite finds so far are 3 unused 19th century Nova Scotia stamps, and a 1890-ish Hawaii stamp. I also like that I have found so many British empire stamps celebrating the 1937 coronation. I have no intention of selling anything, although I might entertain trades. I mainly collect U.S....I know what to look for there. I'm learning what is special for my Canada and Great Britain collections. But what about the rest of the world? I'm not particularly interested in stamps from Asia or Africa. I do like all of the South America stamps I found. Chances are I'll keep everything...I tend to keep everything I find and assimilate it all to my collection. I'm like the Borg of stamp collecting. But what would be some things to keep an eye out for that would be extra special that I might find in such collections?

A few years back, I was given a couple of collections to add to my own. They both belonged to parents of friends of mine, and were given to me for free. Both of them date back to when they were children, so they are full of pre-1940 stamps from around the world. First thing I did was to add any U.S. stamps they contained to my own collection if I needed them, and I found some pretty good stuff. No real 'classics', but good stamps I didn't have. Lately, I've been looking through these albums again. I have 2 volumes of Scott International (big blue) from 1955, and another volume 1 from 1947. I'm guessing they were getting approvals back then, as there are many unused stamps...that were unfortunately hinged to the pages.
What has intrigue me, though, are the British commonwealth and empire stamps. I started a collection of Great Britain a year ago, and I'm now having fun finding all of these stamps from British colonies and possessions from the early 20th century. At least...I assume anything with a British monarch's head on it would be a British possession. I think I'd like to put these to an album of their own. Are there any albums out there that fit this bill? How about album pages that I could print? I'm interested in everyone's thoughts. Thanks!

mdroth...Really? This stamp is that rare? I don't have that kind of luck. Once I identified what it is, I still figured it was worth maybe $10 on a good day.

Agreed, I think it's a nice find, too. No doubt the hinging makes it worth considerably less than $80. Plus, mine is used. Good thing I'm in this for the enjoyment, and not the money. Finding something like this just adds to the fun. I was told it was rare. If it is...cool! it's still going in my album.

So I shared this on a Facebook page last night, and I learned a little that I didn't know. The stamp on the left is in my album already. The stamp on the right, I found in a collection I recently was given. I had asked if they were similar varieties and maybe one had faded, or could it be something else. I was told by multiple people that I had come across an 832g. Odd, because my catalog (no, it's not a Scott catalog, it's from the USPS) didn't show a g variety. Turns out that its rather rare and worth a few bucks. Do you all agree with this assessment? If so, I'm pleasantly surprised with my little find. And, if this all true, it makes me wonder how long it's been attached (with a hinge) to the little card and priced at only 7c! Unless someone just didn't know what they were selling and assumed it was a regular 832. photo upload sites

Feb 26, 2018 15:49:40 GMT -5 Beryllium Guy said: No problem, Dave. Steve has already fixed it!
As I hope you can now realize by seeing images of other members’ stamps from this same set, your stamps certainly look as genuine as the rest.
In fact, the centering on your one-cent seems much better than just about any other one posted (four clear margins, in my opinion), and I can tell you from my own experience that it is very tough to find sound, well-centered copies of these stamps.
So, again, congratulations on your find!
Thanks for your comments on my new stamps. They do look nice...just a darn shame that the previous owner hinged them to the page in their album. Unused, but the gum on the back of each is disturbed. I've managed to remove the stamps with no further damage, as the hinges were barely attached. They'll go into my album with a mount. Unfortunately, I've come across a lot of stamps in this gifted-to-me collection in the same condition: many mint stamps from early 20th century or late 19th century, hinged to the pages.

Apologies for placing my post in the wrong location. I simply didn't look far enough for the proper board. Still, I honestly thought these stamps must be fake. They look a bit too good to be 150 years old. So it was an exciting find.

I was a victim of a bit of bullying on one of the other stamp forums out there, too. I was called "a parasite on the hobby" because I was not a member of the APS. I haven't been participated on that forum since. I like this one much better, thank you.

I thought these were pretty cool, so I thought I'd share them. Found them in a collection I was gifted. Might not be worth much, but they look nice, and they are my first Nova Scotia stamps to go in my Canada album. Yay for me!

Nope, I don't have a Penny black, either. I started a Great Britain album about a year ago. I immediately assumed that the first page in that album would go as unfilled as the first page of my U.S. album.
