These were mainly attached to money orders in denominations of 2c - 90c {Van Dam FPS42-58 } Initially called postal notes then in 1950s to postal scrip They essentially were the cents value of a money order - Money order $5 + 50c postal scrip to be $5.50 total
I too,did not these existed. Never heard the term used either. Something learned today. That’s why I keep coming back to the Forum. I seem to find and learn something new on a regular basis. David

Angore, As a reference for visual of Machins I have found the site of the following dealer to be very helpful. hampsteadcastle.co.uk/I do not know if it would be of any assistance to you. I certainly learned a bit about the paper and printer differences. I have not made any purchases for him. I have plans to do so when the budget permits. Happy Machin hunting. David

My great grandmother had a shoe box sized box of this type of cards and other embossed items . She used to let us kids look at them. About ten years after she passed I ask the family where the box went. I was horrified to hear they were burned when the house was cleared. Every one thought they were useless junk. It is a shame that too much of her time like the gets trashed.

Been soaking and sorting stamps for last week. Have many sent in exchanges. Trying to do a bit of spring “ cleaning” of my collecting. Working on re-organizing my work space. It’s hard to keep focused with so much to do.
at least it is fun work.

I have never had anything like that happen to me. I always ask about combined shipping before bidding or buying if not listed. For me no response mean I move on.
to my knowledge I have been blocked by one buyer. He was not happy with the feedback I gave him. He wanted me to change it. It was not a negative feedback but he claimed that it affected his sellers rating.
when processing the sale I had added the not asking if he could reduce the shipping cost as it was close to $5 . At the time the rate was about 80 cents or $1.80 for heavier or oversized.Even rate for Overseas was only $2.50 at the time.
My there was no reply to my request. After I had feedback he certainly was in contact with me.
to show I had no hard feeling, I made a $40 purchase from him. Next day I got a refund from him saying “ all items were out of stock”
That is when i found out i was blocked by him.
my reply : Fine with me as there are many other Canadian sellers that want my business.
my only really bad experience.

Thanks, David

A great issue.
I now have managed to read all of it. I enjoyed the article on Cinderellas . Though I do not collect (yet) I found it very informative. I would like to help out by submitting an article at some point. My big issue is what to write about.
keep up the great work.

Today I said goodbye to a ninety-some year-old collector friend I've known for 25+ years. KP collects--or rather, collected, worldwide stamps for 85 years, and had amassed a rather sizable holding of stamps. Next week he and his beloved wife move into an assisted living facility out-of-state to be near his non-collecting children. The collection had to go!It doesn't get any better than this classy guy..... KP had an exit plan, do you?!?! --Jim Jim, what fortitious timing of your posting. I have started my “ exit” plan recently. I was calling my plan “ downsizing”. No one in my family has any interest in stamps. What are my plans? To get rid of the common stuff while I can. I would say I have a run of the mill WW collection. I do have some early Issues from various countries. The monetary value really does not interest. I will be making a visual inventory of those stamps and the locations in my albums. I am hoping that this will ease the work for those handling my affairs. Stamp collecting has never been a money making venture for me. I have learn so much about the world and enjoyed every minute of it. David

I use 100stamp club. If you are not very particular on what you get, it’s great. I find that some collectors are too picky about what they want. Of the twenty five exchanges I have done, only one has been disappointing. Have a look at the site and look at some of the discussion. Need more info, send me a message.

A great post.
i have been cleaning up my hordes of Canadian stamps and I found a stash of pre cancels. There are a few inverted ones in there. I remember as a teenager I always was on lookout for anything inverted. Will be keeping my eyes open as I sort through my envelopes.

I was going to start on the German semi-postals, but I am waiting for my winnings from jamesw to arrive before sending some off to Beryllium Guy for some of his traders. So instead, I re-started Luxembourg. I had only done up to 1982, which was all MNH. From 1982 on, they are mostly used with a few mint here & there. So I'll get on with them. I need to sort all the other Luxembourg traders, so if anyone needs Luxembourg, I have a number of them. 20th Century only though. The one 19th century has already been spoken for. But sheesh, how I hate the way Steiner arranged the stamps. Years all mixed up, out of chronological order. It takes a while to fix, and then add info & fact check everything before printing & mounting. Oh well, like my Faroes, they eventually get done! Peter, once you get your Luxembourg sorted, let me know if there are any you need. I have quite a few mint and used from 1982 and onward. They need a good home.i do have small stash of classic as well. David

Received today, German South-West Africa #2:... A nice copy, I just had a copy arrive a few days ago. Mine does not look as good as yours. Green seems to be lighter on mine. And of course I do not have the great German text with the stamp details. Good luck on further hunting. david

I managed to get a few small stamp projects done today. Sorted and soaked several hundred stamps. Got two packets of stamps ready to mail for an exchanged. Cleaned up my stamp working area. Updated my inventory of this weeks arrivals. And I managed a 6km walk in lovely sunny -2 this afternoon.

I have a few of these hanging around somewhere. I do not actively collect these days. My copies were gifts when I was once a teenage collector many years ago.

I think my biggest mistake was to not store my collection properly during the years I was not actively collecting. This was a period of about twenty five years. During that time there were random purchases or gifts shove into boxes. These boxes always moved with me. But we’re quite often stored in less than ideal conditions. Think attics or basements. Much to my horror when I got active in stamping in 2006, I found my carelessness result in a great deal of damage. Too many thing had to be tossed. So many glassine envelops with mint stamps stuck to each other. Too few were saved by soaking. Now that I am somewhat older and perhaps a bit wiser I will do things differently if I have to stop.
