To this day it would be very easy to rest in the remoteness of the wooded mountains.Trust me when I tell you, got to be one of the most beautiful spots on the planet.I plan on hiking more this spring into some desolate areas with hidden streams and waterfalls.

I'm sure everyone has used Faber pencils at some point in their careers. Here's a couple of nice Faber posterstamps I picked up yesterday.

A couple of more German Advert labels. Though the company names are different, the Berlin address is the same. Same neighbourhood? Seem to be the same chefs too. Love that they where slippers! Maybe our German speaking members can translate these for me. The only German I know I learned watching Hogan's Heros as a kid!

The first label advertised "canned cream" - I don't think I can buy such a thing at my local supermarket (it's not the same as evaporated or condensed milk), apparently the Newfoundlanders eat up everybody's share! The second one is for a liquid shortening used for baking. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any information on Grana at the German Society for Fat Science (or however they choose to translate it, maybe they have a nicer sounding name for it in English ...), nor do I see anything online except for a bunch of poster stamps! I'm sure everyone has used Faber pencils at some point in their careers. Here's a couple of nice Faber posterstamps I picked up yesterday. Faber-Castell is a company of long, long standing (originates in 1761) from the Nuremberg region in Bavaria. When I was in high school, I was an exchange student in Nuremberg so I got to learn a bit about the local history. One of the area day trips I took was to the "Pencil Castle", a ritzy Art Nouveau mansion built early in the 20th century by the Faber-Castell family. Franken Magazin article on the Pencil Castle (Franconia Magazine, in German but with some pictures - Franconia is the relevant region of Bavaria) Anyway, what got me on that topic was the name "Johann Faber" - I remembered something different as the pencil guy's name, so I snooped online. It turns out the Johann Faber on your poster stamps was a brother who founded his own pencil company back in 1879 and started a Brazilian subsidiary - those companies were eventually bought out by Faber-Castell in 1932. (The "Castell" part of the name came from a Count who married into the family and ended up in charge.) The company now has 7000 employees worldwide - who knew the pencil industry could be so big? (They sell pens and other stuff too now, of course.) The history of the company is quite interesting. Way back in the day they had exclusive rights to a graphite mine in Siberia for the lead and the wood for the pencils came from Florida. I'm guessing they didn't build 5-cent pencils .... And further to the Nuremberg / pencil connection, another massive brand, Staedtler, is also from Nuremberg. They have had pencil makers in the family since 1662! Ryan

Here are some rather attractive Poster Stamps advertising the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company. They came in a folder inscribed 1/6d. A folder also exists inscribed 2/6d but with identical Poster stamps.
I also found an unusual sheet of stamps commemorating the 1985 Festival of British Jewry which shows an inspiring Union Flag-cum Star of David for it's central design.

The Hong Kong Peninsula Hotel label shown further up the thread (sorry I clagged up the 'quote' function), was also used to adorn the inside lid of complimentary boxes of hotel chocolates.

I have not been able to date these yet but most likely the early part of the 20th Century. The set is much larger and I am looking out for them as I find them hugely attractive. The Stamps show the Male and Female costumes of the countries Franz Kathreiner Import from, especially the Oriental types. Nice series, possibly from a Se-tenant sheet ? Would also go well in a collection of Advertising stamps with the topic of the German City of Munich. There are literally hundreds !! (Maybe thousands)

For my 100th post in this forum, I wish to show one of my favourites poster stamps (I won't call it "cinderella"!)
It's a poster of 1910 Catalonia's Car Races, held at Mataró (30 km NE of Barcelona). The work is by Pere Montanyà.

cursus .......A lovely Poster stamp and congrats on reaching 100 posts ! Better add a Poster stamp while I am here !! Empire Air Days were popular during the 1930's when for one day, usually in May, RAF locations throughout the UK opened to the public. The Poster stamp here was for one such day/year.

Poster stamps issued by LNER/Scarborough Corporation to encourage holidaymakers to visit their town. The slogan Meet the Sun was introduced by LNER in 1939 to promote travel to the east coast. I used to live in Birmingham and most summer holidays were spent in Devon or Cornwall. Anglobob
