I found this in one of my recent forages through kiloware. I saw something similar listed on eBay which suggested it was from the USA and part of an "anti-alcohol" campaign but I don't know for sure.

Just 14 km from Reus, lies Tarragona, the old Roman city of Tarraco. Founded by the Scipio brothers on the year 218 B.C, it was the capital of the Tarraconense province, one of the Roman Hispania divisions. It was even the capital of the whole Roman Empire for some years, as Augustus lived there on 25-26 B.C.
There are still many interesting Roman remains and the whole Roman city was declared UNESCO Humanhood Heritage Site on 2001.
1930s poster-stamp, boasting their Roman origin.

On April 1911, there was a "cycle-car" (known as "down cars") race between the summit of Tibidabo (overlooking Barcelona, Catalonia) to the hilly area of Vallvidrera and to the village of Sarrià, all of them on the hills that are on the back of Barcelona. For that, there was issued a poster stamp:
We know a number of papers and inks:

The first of many (over 800) Poster Stamps in an auction lot I picked up recently.....in no particular order! The album was very old (1930's) and I am in the process of soaking or otherwise removing the fragile treasures within. The vast majority are European (mostly German) advertising poster stamps from about a hundred years ago. I wonder if I should try to remove some of the loose perf bits hanging on...for now I will pass on that option. Too risky and time consuming. Perhaps this question might have been addressed in another thread, I will search for that when I can. "Haselhorst's Leather Grease / Stierkopf (Brand name) is the very best!" I like the cartoon clown characters, though I'm not sure what they have to do with leather polishing grease.

"The BUGRA" German: Der Buch Gewerbe und Graphik Ausstellung or the International Exposition of Books and Graphic Arts was held back in 1914. Many different Poster Stamps were produced to advertise this event. Shown here are some of them that are quite common.
According to The Cinderella Philatelist from April 2000, this particular version with the black border was the original design that was rejected by the exhibition committee presumably because it looks like a mourning stamp. Consequently, it is rare. Daniel

Bertold Loeffler (1874 -1860) and the Kunstschau Wien of 1908 Loeffler studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts. In 1902 he he co-founded the ceramics studios Wiener Keramik, and worked in the Wiener Werkstätte. He taught at the school of applied arts from 1909. He is known primarily for his graphic and ceramic works. In 1908 he designed the poster for the Vienna Art Show organised by Gustav Klimt. A slightly different poster stamp was also produced and printed by Albert Berger. It is considered one of the best and most rare of poster stamps. I acquired this one from the recent cinderella auction that has been discussed. Here is an article from the April 2000 Cinderella Philatelist discussing cinderella rarities including this one and the Egon Schiele stamp that I showed here. I think that those prices are probably too high for today's market nonetheless, I am pleased to have two of them. .

That is a gorgeous poster stamp by Loeffler, daniel! It would fit perfectly in my modern art on stamps collection, if only it were a little closer to my price range.... Well, maybe some day! Thanks for sharing it in the meantime

In a way, almost every stamp or postcard is "an advertising item".
