Well, it was back in 1913. By then, men were wearing jacket and tie when skiing. At least, here, in Catalonia. I've, somewhere, a book with pictures of that. Only rich people could afford to ski and "they dressed properly".

I can communicate in five European languages (English, French, Spanish, Italian & Portuguese), other than my own (Catalan) and find my way on another two (German and Basque) without needing any electronic device. Of course, I can do some mistakes when writting English!

Poster stamps have been a secondary interest for me, but cursus ' and oldpapercollect 's enthusiasm is catchy. There is no denying their appeal. A real challenge is finding them properly canceled. After all, no reason why they should be.
I know nothing of the history of this Geneva sticker except what I can tell from the mail it's on. Here someone across the border in France used it to decorate a card to Paris. No year; maybe 1913. The sticker shows the city in the distant background, barely visible.
And for no reason except it always amazes me, Ennio Morricone conducts his Ecstasy of Gold from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, sung here by his favorite soprano, Susanna Rigacci. The real star is the oboist, visibly sweating through his bit.

Kasvik: you've shown a very nice poster stamp. Thank you for sharing. I'm a collector of both poster stamps/cinderellas and used stamps (Switzerland, Scandinavia, UK, Austria...). As for Oldpapercollect, by now, we're all fully aware that you've a huge collection of cinderellas and poster stamps.
Being myself, a very modest collector, I rather prefer to show a few every time. In my view, it gives our friends the chance of fully appreciate them.

These 3 stamps were produced in 1914 to mark the 150th anniversary of The Royal Academy for the Graphic and Book Industry, as it was then called, in Leipzig, Germany. It was founded in 1764 and has undergone several name changes in its history. Today it is called The Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig. These large stamps are fine examples of graphic design: Konig Academy Graphic Art by Daniel, on Flickr

The Catalan version of "Art Nouveau" is called "Modernisme". We've many poster stamps on this style. Like this: May 1909, Catalonia's Car Races Cup:

Poster stamp from a work by Xavier Nogués, issued for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition. It shows "Poble Espanyol" ("Pueblo Español", on the, by then compulsory Spanish language) or Spanish Village. Built just for the exhibition and aimed to be tored down at the end of that, it has (for some unknown reason) reached our days, althought it is just visited by tourists and long forgotten by us. It shows life-size reproductions of different buildings of the Iberian peninsula.
