Saw this in the library at the RPSL recently and had to get it. The author is Robert H. Pratt and this is the 1982 edition.
This one is in very good condition and has the 3 colour plates at the back.
That's the weekend reading sorted!

Hi Michael!
Your most recent post (above) reminded me of an informal agreement I consented to at our local stamp club two nights ago.
A rather senior member who is also a RPSL member (and accomplished philatelic exhibitor author and collector) asked me if I'd be interested in buying a bunch of his RPSL literature. Without batting can eyelash I said "sure!" and he agreed to sell me ("at an undetermined, yet reasonable price") his library of several years, I think he said.
Trouble is, I find it very difficult to pass up philatelic literature of almost any type, and my stamp room is becoming crowdeder and crowdeder!
I'll keep y'all posted as this illness progresses!

One of the philatelic hotspots of Europe: A few pictures: I will use this book to make pages for the Local issue of Jasina next week (example: 2nd image).

Another visit to the Royal Philatelic Society London, another book purchased.
It is by Michael Roberts who is currently President of the Society. As such he has to make a presentation at one of the Societies meetings. So on 18 April 2024 the President's display is "The Pacific Steam Navigation Company". It's on my calendar.

I said I was done acquiring France references, but....this was very affordable and I have seen Jacques LaFitte, so I thought I would grab this for comparison. Catalogue numbering does not follow Y & T or Maury. There's some details that I don't recall seeing elsewhere, so it will be interesting to see how much this work agrees or veers off... More academic, but may prove useful . The inside is suprisingly few and far between with handwritten notes, despite the cover. It even smells OLD... If anyone has an more recent edition, let me know. I'm curious as to how long htese were in print

I like the idea of posting the cover and at least the table of contents for the book. with respect to my recent post, no TOC, just a short preface, some definitions and then the first Cerés issue followed by the rest

Sometimes you take a book out from the library and you realize pretty quickly that you need a copy for the personal library for reference... this is not the first time this has happened! TOC for those interested, not the comprensive listing of these markings, need the specialized literature for that! Don't have a scanner yet sadly, something I'm working on as we move to a new place!

Also have some books on loan from the SCC Library that are due back soon (I think they might be overdue?)... the translated volume is something that will certainly be in my next purchase from Jay Smith, as I saw he has (hopefully,) at least one in stock. "Om at Samle Tofarvede / On Collecting the Bicolors" "Kom i Gang med Danmarks Tofarvede / Get Started with Denmark’s Bicoloreds"
TOC for the spiral bound volume:
TOC for the small paperback:
Even in Danish, these books proved very helpful in identifying the different frame types and providing general identification info (outside of the perfs!)

I'll spread this across a few posts as to not make an enormous post, but just wanted to share some books I've gotten recently, purchases and library loans, and some stuff I've been heavily referencing as well. Firstly, some new purchases involving philatelic literature: The Second edition (1971) of the HJMR Priced Guide to Philatelic Literature, if anyone has any books they want to know the price of a book published pre-1970, let me know and I'll look it up! Going through this has made me both nostalgic for an era I never lived in (I was born in 1995,) but also very happy for the advent of the internet! I can both imagine being ecstatic to get tear sheets from this, but also anxious that the article may not cover exactly what I want to learn about something!
Second, the 1991 reprint issue of the Harris Index, I've been researching some old periodicals ahead of my visit to the APRL in the next few months, and this is such a great resource for early philatelic writings. Doesn't hurt that the copy I got was also basically brand new, never read!
Third, a book I've had for a while and is very well loved in this household, James Negus's Philatelic Literature, such an amazing text, I highly recommend a copy to anyone who has a passing interest in Philatelic Literature and how to create good bibliographies or indexes, it's probably the book I reference the most that isn't about a specific stamp.
And here's the table of contents for those interested:
Second post will have my library books!

I made a post recently in the Classic Canada forum about the Small Queens, and that is my current hyperfixation issue. First up is the Ronald Ribler 3c Small Queen handbook, tremendous work here, I wish this was more available in the literature market because I want a copy!
Here is the TOC:
Second is the Hilson & Nixon text, in full color, also a tremendous work, hopeful to get a copy of this soon! And here's the TOC for this one
Also of recent interest has been the Admirals of Canada, I have the Marler book already, but wanted something in color to explain some stuff better, and this Richard Morris exhibit is tremendous.
TOC for exhibit: And of course, one who enjoys Canadian stamps cannot be without the trusty Unitrade catalog! My copy is from 2022, and I will be pre-ordering the 2024 version soon. I'm very sad that Unitrade is closing down, does anyone know if the catalog will still be published past 2025? Will someone pick up the mantle or will we be without a specialized Canadian catalog?

Around 1997, I started to compilate all postmarks showing buildings and monuments my city, Barcelona. I ended with a 55 pages "catalog" with information about 350 postmarks and metters, which I gave to my friends in 2006. Something curious, but without any relevance.

After compiling the postmarks showing buidings and monuments of Barcelona, on the late 1990s, I turned to the special postmarks used on that city. There were many around going from 1888 to date. Getting the images was quite easy as I had access to a huge philately library spanding most of the XX century, the one of the cercle Filtatèlic i Numismàtic of Barcelona. But, what was the reason of issuing the postmarks? When? Where, in Barcelona were they used? Who designed them? Which person/body sponsored them? Some of the information could be found on the literature, but many relevant data, were just in the mind of my ageing fellow Barcelona philatelists. So, realising that the information would not be available for very long, I started to question them and taking down the information they had on the postmarks. I guess, i was just on time, as most of my friends are no longer with us. But their heritage is still here:
In total, I lists about 1300 postmarks used on the city of Barcelona, between 1888 and 2023, with a lot of information on them (not just the illustrations). I also, included a brief summary on Barcelona's philatelic world of that time. A kind of hommage to the people, my friends, who made it possible.
The work is written in Catalan, our language. I've always refused it to be translated to Spanish (I could have done by myself), a language for which I don't have any love. But there's a multilingual glossary at the beginning. It's, actually, "a living thing", as I keep on adding to the second volume, all the new special postmarks (very few, I'm afraid, since 2019) to the Publisher's file. The last ones are just from 3 weeks ago.
