A challenge for Turkey collectors, and great for Postmark collectors. City and Town scenes. Set of 134 stamps CV: $26 Anyone aware of a larger / longer existing stamp set? Australians may note Canakkale, focus of the 1915 Gallipoli campaign. wiki Çanakkale is the finishing point every year for an organised swim across the Hellespont from Eceabat. This event emulates the swim in 1810 by Lord Byron. The city is the nearest major town to the site of ancient Troy. The "wooden horse" from the 2004 movie Troy is exhibited on the seafront. 1958 Steiner page 23

This mystery stamp comes from Londonbus1 , part of a jumbo lot from the last auction. However, I must begin by apologizing on two scores: (1) it seems familiar and may have been posted before, but I can't find it in previous threads and (2) it may not even be a Cinderella. I am just guessing that it might be because I can't see anything that might be a denomination. So, obviously Arabic, but beyond that... any ideas? Oh, and in case this may aid identification, it is on very thin paper.

The stamp has the appearance of a Turkey Tughra stamp It however does not look like most of the issues & it appears "modern" This is an early tughra stamp with control markings - forgeries abound

The value is in the central space and looks like a slanted '1' and a dot. Circa 1910-30.

According to the Forbin catalog it would appear to be an 1879 Commerce #26 Early Turkey stamps can be dated by the Tughras as to the reign of the Sultan they fall in If perf 131/2 it is without watermark 111/2 "most" have a watermark It does however look in very good condition unless it is a forgery or later reprint? There are a lot of variances Left 1888, issue of 1879 with an ovpt. compared to yours

Wow that's some nice stuff ! Thanks for sharing. My number two daughter is now married to a Turkish man. When he visited with Mom he asked to see her Turkish stamps.nexxt time he's here I'll drag up this thread and let him see some really nice stuff. His grandfather died last year but was unable to go home because of the political atmosphere in D.C. His visa may not have been renewed. He is now a citizen here so life is good.
