Mr. H ........your label is similar in design to one produced in a set of 4 colours by the American Bank Note Co. for the 1934 National Stamp Exhibition. Also seen is a similar label with different advertising in the bottom panel. The one below is again similar and is an unadopted design for the same event. (I am inclined to believe it is by the same designer but with changes)

In this wonderful hobby of ours, it is always a joy when hitherto unknown facts come ones way. I have been reading up a bit more on the life of Albert Einstein and learned that he was offered the position of 2nd President of the State of Israel in 1952, shortly after the death of Chaim Weizmann, who recommended him. Also about his time at Christ Church, Oxford and his friendship with Charlie Chaplin. Now I'll need to read more........... Einstein, supporter of the Zionist Movement only visited the region one time in his life, back in 1922 but was revered by many in the region and upon the proclamation of the State in 1948 was treated like a son. The JNF labels here were issued in 1955 to mark his death. Printed by United Artists on watermarked paper, Perf 11½.

I wonder how many Public Houses (Pubs) double as a Post Office ? The one you see here was in Bournemouth on England's South Coast and was the first Post Office in the town (1839-40). I quite like the idea of licking my Penny Blacks to my letters whilst downing a pint !!! Anyway the place has a mildly interesting life, albeit rather short. www.flickr.com/photos/alwyn_ladell/albums/72157640479534264/(Click on 'Show More')

A rather sombre label on a 1940's General Government (German Occupation of Poland) card. Haven't yet found any info about the label but there's hope.............

Londonbus1 I had long thought that these Poster stamps were the work of British Artist Mabel Lucie Attwell as the designs are so similar to some of her postcards, some of which I collect whilst at Antique or other fairs. I have just been having a rare look through one or two Card and cover albums which have long been neglected and what should I come across ? Yes, the exact same postcard design as one of the Poster stamps !!! And there was I on and off searching for an answer....and it was right under my nose. Fred K.Spurgin was born in Russia (Latvia) in 1882 and came to Britain in 1900 where he made his name as an illustrator and Postcard designer. His designs especially during WWI were of great interest and very popular. it is easy to see why. jefkelief.blogspot.com/2016/07/fred-spurgin.htmlProblem solved......but now more to collect !! @farmalion Absolutely ! Anyone can write an article at anytime as Beryllium Guy and Ryan have pointed out. In the past we have also had some incentives and prizes for 'newcomer' articles so please feel free to start one. There is plenty of time before the next edition. Any more new-ish members who wish to write something now is the time to start. If you need any help, please don't hesitate to ask. Anything with a Philatelic connection is acceptable. Have fun and get going !! Londonbus1

cursus showed us a couple of sheets that had these designs, including one from the same year 1957. Here's a part sheet in green. Granollers 1957......nice designs, I like them.

I'm pretty sure there are not too many (if any) other Cinderellas with a Chelmsford, Essex connection. So it was with a big smile that I found this one produced for the Chelmsford & Essex Building Society. No other info found and probably not likely to be so. The Society were amalgamated with the Bristol & West BS in 1971, the latter being purchased by the Bank of Ireland in 1996. Anyway, it brought back memories of my youth as Family had some savings there and I remember the office in Duke Street and the occasional visit with my parents. Now I am definitely homesick !

Gott Strafe England !!! Yes, well OK then. There are many different propaganda labels and sheets with the same damning headline and the two shown below are from a longer set that for some reason appear quite popular. They are the only two I managed to procure. The German Slogan 'Gott strafe England' was, oddly enough, created by a Jew. As I understand it, Ernst Lissauer was one of only a small number of the German-Jewish population who had leanings towards the Homeland but his words were re-created a million times over not only on Propaganda labels but also Posters, envelopes, letterheads, crests, buckles, Jewelry, signs to name but a few. The words were adopted by the German Army in the lead up to, and during, World War 1. Lissauer also wrote the poem 'Hymn of Hate' (Hassgesang Gegen) The labels shown here may have been printed in Linz, Austria.

All my bargain buys mentioned in the previous post arrived just before Yom Kippur so I will be scanning later. In the meantime, here are a couple of nice 'errors' I prepared earlier !! A 1957 issue inscribed 'Flag of Jerusalem' which was presented to a school in the City for their contributions towards the Jewish National Fund. Issued in small sheetlets (4x4), Printed also in Brownish Red, Grey and Black. Perf 11. However, the perfs in this one appear to be all over the place....and not in their place !!!! The next one may well be a type of error or even a colour trial but my searching has drawn a blank so far. Issued by the JNF/KKL to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the State of Israel. Two valued stamps in this issue but no Imperfs noted. The middle example is in the correct colour but is missing the 20th Anniversary symbol. Issue 1968 in sheets of 4x5 with tabs below bottom row. Perf 10½. Londonbus1

Absolutely !!
In fact, nothing has much credibility in this topic. I guess it's hard to get 'off the beaten track' in Lundy, given that it's so small an Island. So only here at The Stamp Forum can we have a bit of fun about this amazing place.
Three cheers for Puffins.........

Ah ! Kolkata (Calcutta as I know it), my most favourite place I visited in India. Eden Park, the home of Cricket for me and one of the most amazing things I saw on my visit there. Seemingly , 1,000 games of cricket going on at the same time and after being persuaded to join I was bowled out for a duck !! But I did take a couple of wickets with my medium-pace bowling. Great days. Anyway, after getting carried away, welcome dosamaniac to TSF ! You have some great knowledge of many topics so hope you will show some of your items here. Have fun and happy collecting. Many thanks to sarah for her kind offer in the previous post. To celebrate, here is a block of telegraph stamps used on Lundy during the time of Queen Victoria. From the look of the values, they had tons of money on the small Island in those days !! Well, it's all good fun isn't it. Isn't it ?

1960 it is !! The two clues are those found by stamphinger. The Royal Festival Hall has hosted a number of Philatelic Exhibitions but only one International....1960. Lovely to see the old window of Gibbons. For those who say Stamp Collecting is a 'dead' hobby, look at the window today !!

Dual Nationality should give me the right to post again here shouldn't it ? Yeah, why not !! Anyway, I am always calling England, 'home'. There are many stamps to choose from including those of any of the Monarchs. But I have chosen a block I like very much which epitomizes the spirit and determination of the British (football aside)........The Battle of Trafalgar issue of October 2005. One that gave continued freedom from the French . (I might have been a Frenchman, consider that!?) Someone who knew nothing about Britain would be fascinated by the Battle of Trafalgar and the Naval Commander who went against the Navy Rules to win a great victory, Admiral Lord Nelson. The stamps depict scenes from the battle at Cape Trafalgar where Nelson defeated the French & Spanish without the loss of a single ship. But I could always post a Flag.................

I have chosen the stamp issued by Israel Post on 31st March 1949. It celebrates the 1st year of Independence, and depicts the Flag of the State of Israel. Someone who knows nothing about a country must first learn about it's Flag ! (Being a Flag collector I may be a little biased !!). The centre of the Flag shows the 'Shield of David' (Magen David) a Jewish symbol for over 700 years. The Blue and white bands derive from the Prayer Shawl, the 'Tallit'. The design has Zionist origins, the Nationalist movement being at the forefront for the establishment of a Jewish State. The flag was adopted after Independence in May 1948. I have chosen this specific stamp NOT ONLY for the reason of learning. But also for the reason of understanding........of understanding that something may be missing. So my interpretation of this stamp goes further. The missing bar of the 'E' in Israel should symbolize that something is still has to be achieved. Peace with our immediate neighbours. Only then can we replace the missing bar in that 'E'. Londonbus1

British Empire Exhibition 1924-25. Aside from labels produced by Lloyds Bank, nothing else has been shown from these two Exhibitions which proved to be very popular with the British public at the time. Also, worldwide participation was huge with buildings and pavilions built-for and used by a many Empire Nations. Below is a series issued specifically for 1925. Designed by F. Gregory Brown (1887-1941) and drawn very much in his style, they might well depict scenes from the Exhibition, or at the very least in part. Brown won a Gold medal at a Paris Design Exhibition in the same year. There are 8 designs and under the design, as in labels produced for the event in 1924, there are inscriptions. 8 different inscriptions have been seen according to the Handbook by Alan D. Sabey which goes on to assume that there are 64 different combinations of labels to collect, which may well be the case. The BEE would make for a fascinating topic on it's own when coupled with the various labels from 1924 and items of ephemera. Here are just a few from 1925. Whilst here, a small selection from 1924-25 some of which have been seen elsewhere. My favourites ! These appeared in Vol.4 No.2 of the Newsletter but let's have them here too ! tsfimagehost.net/TSFNews/V4.2.pdfYou can read about them there. Londonbus1

The items shown in the previous post and the other proofs shown below were a small part of the collection and estate of the American Physicist, Herbert A. Trenchard. Trenchard was a Collector of Philatelic History and Ephemera, specializing in early Stamp Dealers, Societies and Stamp Exhibitions. In 2006 he received the Smithsonian Philatelic Achievement Award alongside Britain's foremost Cinderella Expert Francis Kiddle. I will look forward to adding these to my Exhibition lot ! Londonbus1
