Also, I would of course need to print or have the pages printed. The local printer isn't interested in doing the small number of pages I would need, so that probably means looking for a large format printer. There is of course the HP 7740 as purchased by ajkitt another alternative is the Epson WF-7210 which only being a printer , without the all-in-one functionality is even cheaper - has anyone had any experience with this printer? Good Morning, Last year I wanted to print my own Lighthouse pages. So I looked for a good 11" x 17" printer. I found the Canon Pixma iX6820 (inkjet) which is $180 on Amazon now. It takes 5 ink cartridge, because it has 2 black cartridges. I can buy 3 complete sets of ink on Ebay for $15. That right, I get 15 cartridges for $15. These are not small cartridges either, they are the larger cartridges. It prints beautifully, and you can make any size page you want up to 11" x 17". I have had no problem with the cheap ink from Ebay so far, it has been working good. Hope this helps.
Have a great day.
Mike.

Hi ajkitt I use blank pages, with a light quadrille, exclusively. I had some printed on 55# paper. I must say a filled 1" binder weighs a "ton". In retrospect, next time I would probably use a little lighter paper. With 65# a binder will be a lot heavier. Something to think about before buying the paper. I am a great supporter of the "mom and pop" print shops (not the office store print shops). Check you local print shop as a paper supply. You'll be amazed at what one can get. Not only that, you can get the pages hole punched, if desired, at a "next to nothing cost" (the paper may also be cheaper). Jerry B Hey Jerry, Can the print shops punch 16 or 18 hole? I never thought about using them to get the paper already punched.
Have a great day.

They clean up fine on the concrete floor of the shop - I doubt I'd get them out of my carpeting here at home, though .... Hey Ryan, actually, if you would like the color changing LED lights for you Signascope, I can put it all together for you. Well, that would certainly be a fine thing. If it's easy enough for you to do, then you can find my address in the forum's list. Thanks very much! Ryan Don't think your the first to destroy some carpet, been there, done that. LOL.
I will see if I can find all the parts here to make you a conversion kit. It may be a little while, I am actually going to get cooler weather this week, which means I can work outside for an entire day for once.
Have a great day.

Mike, Are you unable to open them at all? You should be able to open and print them as-is, but that's it. They are locked for editing to keep people from modifying them and distributing them as their own. If you need versions sized for Lighthouse pages, I can probably make you a custom copy pretty easily. I would just need to know (1) which ones you need; (2) the paper dimensions in mm; and (3) a sample scan of a Lighthouse page with content on it would help so I can make sure the print area is set correctly. OK. Thanks. I will try to figure which ones I actually need and will get the measurements for you. I truly appreciate this. Thanks,Mike.

A big addition today. I added blank pages for all 10 German Colonies. As this is my most specialized collecting area, the Specialized pages are far more specialized than most of my other blank pages. They also include the British/French/Belgian occupations of the German Colonies. I also tweaked the appearance of some of the basic, consistent parts of the pages (the flags, non-stamp photos, etc.) to give them more depth and make the pages a little more professional looking. I'll eventually go back and make the same changes to the previously uploaded pages to make them match. As always, pages can be found here. A sample from each of the colonies: Good Morning. I tried to download these, and they won't open once I do. It says that "Acrobat Can't Decrypt this document". Do you have them encrypted? I just wanted to change the format so I can print them on my Lighthouse pages.
Have a great day.

Ryan, do you know how to solder wires? I'm tolerable at it, but I'm way better with a welder! I count on the shrink wrap to help hold things together as much as the solder ... haha Ryan Hey Ryan, actually, if you would like the color changing LED lights for you Signascope, I can put it all together for you. I can make it simple for you to install. I just have to find what I did with all the extra pieces I have. It works great on white light, but when I can't see the watermark, then I just change colors until I can see it. Just let me know, I may have all the parts here, I had to order extras of most of the pieces I think, and I can make it so you could just cut and strip your wires and use wire nuts if you want to.
Have a great day,
Mike

I count on the shrink wrap to help hold things together as much as the solder ... haha Ryan Soldering is actually easy. Think about it as in welding, you have to get the hot spark and hold it, until the metal melts together. If it is something really small, it doesn't need to be as hot. The most important thing is to not melt the solder with the soldering iron, but heat the wire to be soldered, and put the solder against the wire to let it melt. Always use the thin solder when soldering wires together, it is easier to control, and usually melt easier. I have had to teach many people how to solder over the years in my job. But I do not solder circuit boards, I usually melt them! LOL.
Have a great day.

I'm another fan of the T1 Signoscope. When I have problems seeing the watermark clearly with it, my trick for that is to turn off the lights (same as I do when looking for phosphorescent tagging on British & old Canadian stamps) and then use a very low light setting on the Signoscope. I find that the contrast in the image is greater that way and I can more easily see what there is to see. And if that still isn't enough, then I take a photo and run that through an image editing program, where I can crank up or down the contrast & brightness as much as I want. Ryan Ryan, do you know how to solder wires? If so, I can send you the list of parts, and write up the instructions, to modify the T1 with an LED that changes colors by remote. I can see the watermarks of the worst stamps with that easily, sitting right next to a 300 watt, 6500K (daylight) light bulb in my lamp, which is extremely bright. You just change the colors with the remote until the watermark shows. Just let me know. Thanks, Mike.

An then I got it right in my face!! To find watermark on these two Straits Settlements King Edward VII on red and blue paper was not possible with my preferred metode! Super Safe fluid did not do the job at all. Ok, then I will try the Sherlock Watermark detector. Not the best photos but her you see that there is watermarks. (multiple crown and CA) So I have to admit that Sherlock Watermark detector in some situations do its job. Good Morning. I don't have the Sherlock, I have the Signoscopes. But there is another thread somewhere, that I have shown what can be seen with a different color light. You can change out you light inside to one that you can control with a remote. When I did this, I was able to change the color of the light until I could see the most impossible watermarks on stamps. I tested it with several different stamps that everyone told me was hard to see the watermarks on. Of course, thsi takes a little know how and common sense, but I can tell anyone how to do it if they want to know. Cost me less than $20 for all the parts on Amazon.
have a great day.

ameis33 Here is the Amazon link to the pen: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KNJCSS/JeffS I have not used it on stamps or covers. The problem with the pen is that on acid-free material, it leaves a purple streak. (On acidic papers, it leaves a yellow trail). Hence, I wouldn't use it on original, collectible materials. There is probably not much you can do if your stamps, covers, or other ephemera are not acid-free. But you can at least verify if your manila pages, album pages, and other storage boxes are acid-free. Well, Amazon sales on acid free pens just went up. I just ordered one, I never thought about testing those manila pages. Thanks for the advise.

1st page with a half-sheet Württemberg 1921 Michel # 153 Official Stamp 40 Pf . I discovered while setting this up that not only is the half sheet cut square, it's a different size from the other and I 'm assuming they will all vary (I have 4 more on their way). I also had to omit the norderas try as I might, I could not get it to print correctly with the oversized mount, anyway, for now, this will work (See previous post for image.) It does look good and barely fits. I will try doing this when I get time.
Have a great day.

I'm not done yet, but I guess Germany's regular Reichpost issues will fill up a couple of Lighthouse Binders. For other areas where I don't have as much relevant information, I will put more than one stamp/series per page. All the special postmarks are shown in this book: The Philately of Third Reich Germany 1933-1945 by Robert W. Jones (Book cover image may be seen earlier on this page in this thread.) WOW. This book is too expensive. I can't find it for less than $160! Some books just aren't worth the price to me. Thanks for the info though. I will keep watching for one on Ebay.
Have a great day.

Received today- The seller has more and I just may get a few more! ... Wow. Really nice stamps. How do you store half sheets? I have some Germany half sheets and whole sheets, but I don't really have a way to keep them. Other than the way they came, folded, in an envelope.
Have a great day. Mike.

Due to the lack of reliable mail service to Ecuador,I have been purchasing stamps and having them sent to my son in California. However, there seems to be some problems with the USPS,mostly in Chicago as mentioned by philatelia .I am missing 7 registered letters from UK and France which were sent in June and early July. The tracking information shows them arriving in Chicago, and no more information. Ryan I had a package come from Austria, it took 20 days to arrive in the US and clear Customs, then it was sent to Chicago for 3 days, then to Palatine outside Chicago, then it took 15 days to get to Jacksonville Florida, and I got it in Pooler, Georgia the next day. A total of 40 days, but it was lost in Illinois for for about 2 weeks. Apparently Illinois is like a postal black hole or something. LOL.

I am creating an album for my German Third Reich Collection. Contains all varieties listed in Michel Specialised, all special postmarks used, names of all engravers (if applicable), as well as a historical context. I do 1-2 pages per day. Immensely enjoyable process. Wow. Amazing pages. How much space does this take up? I mean, If there is only one stamp, plus variations, per page, that would take up a lot of album space. The pages do look great, and it would make an interesting album, even for someone who doesn't collect stamps. That kind of album would get other people interested in collecting stamps maybe. Where do you find all the special postmarks, for each stamp? Or even, every regular postmark? I could surely use that information, I am trying to get one of every postmark from Germany (1872 - 1945 only). I do have a book on all Post Offices from 1941, I think, that supposedly lists all the post offices open that year, but it doesn't list the special postmarks.
Have a great day.

Been going through a pile of plate number singles. Came across these last night - Hebert's catalog $50 each. Boy, do I feel stupid now. My Mom mailed me one of these with the plate number on it, a while back. Well, I needed one in my used album, so I tore the edges off, so it would fit nicely. LOL. I guess Mom does always knows best.

I haven't been stampin' much. To show the point, here is my stack of mail. There are all envelopes of stamps I have received in the last 2 weeks, that I haven't even opened! Who gets stamps in the mail and doesn't open them?

Another auction win, the AFA #23 large breastplate embossed eagle German issue, 1 Kreuzer yellow-green. It is a good looking stamp. It is amazing how this stamp is about 150 years old and still looks that good. If I can only look this good at 150!
Have a great day.

I recently purchased a US State Revenue Album on CD from an eBay seller which is supposed to cover all the states. I have not yet received it but am making an early post to inquire if any members are aware/familiar with it. Seller is rccar-guy and the link is www.ebay.com/itm/State-Revenue-stamps-Album-Pages-on-1-DVD-AL-WY-plus-DC-Total-of-51/383677632069?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649It listed with an opening bid of $4.99 or best offer. I offered $10 and "won" it. I hope it is an affordable alternate to the full-tilt State Revenue publication for my beginner needs. I'm simply looking for an overview of the state revenue world. Input is welcome, good or bad EDIT: I am currently looking toward a type collection, that is one value from issues of multiple values, per state. This CD is actually for you to print your own pages with all the state revenues. There are pages for every state, and every stamp. But, there are no prices, if you wanted that.
Have a great day.
