The Year of Membership – The 2020 Challenge
The Chance of a Lifetime: Recruit, Join, Win A new decade, a new challenge: Recruiting 2,020 new members for 2020. This ambitious goal will require all of us to accomplish. We’re so serious, we’re offering three life memberships as an incentive and a thank you: 1. APS Members: For every new member you recommend, your name will be entered into a drawing to win a free life membership.* 2. Dealers and Chapters: For every successful new recruitment, the dealer or chapter name will be entered into a separate Dealer/Chapter drawing for a free life membership.* 3. New Member: All new members recruited in 2020 will be entered into a drawing for a free life membership!* The year-long contest will end on December 31, 2020. Life Membership drawings will occur at the General Membership meeting during the Spring Meeting at St. Louis Stamp Expo (March 19-21, 2021). APS members are our best recruiters, because they know exactly why membership in the American Philatelic Society is important!
The APS will host two leader boards, updated weekly, for the Individual and Dealer challenges, as well as a weekly update towards our goal of 2,020 new members. Stay tuned for updates on the challenge, recruitment advice from the American Philatelic Society’s best advocates, Life Member profiles, and more. *Restrictions apply. See Contest Rules below.Contest Rules:
1. New member applications received from January 1 to December 31, 2020, will be valid for entry. 2. The following membership categories will be eligible: Regular, Associate, Junior, Chapter, and Young Professional membership (beginning April 1, 2020). 3. Gift memberships must be completed and accepted within the time limits of the contest. 4. Reinstated memberships are not eligible for entry, but reinstated members may be eligible if they recruit new members. 5. New member applications must be accepted – rejected member applications will not be entered. 6. Only members in good standing will be eligible to win the free life membership. 7. APS Chapters are eligible to participate. If a chapter wins, we encourage awarding to a chapter member. 8. Members of the APS Board of Directors, APRL Board of Trustees, and APS employees are not eligible to win a free life membership. 9. Current APS Life Members are eligible to participate and win the drawing. If a Life Member is chosen as a drawing winner, they will instead receive a $750 APS credit or may donate to the APS or APRL. Whether you are a beginning collector or have collected for years, we welcome you to join the American Philatelic Society and discover the many benefits of membership. Join now.

...Amos seems to be overly cautious and tentative when it comes to using technology... Likely due, in part, to the CD version of their 2009 Scott Catalog having been so heavily pirated.

nikhil , I'm glad that you were able to attend the show and hope that it was the first of many for you. I noticed that "Youth Philately" was prominently displayed on the column behind you and would like your estimate of how many "young" people (i.e., under 20) were in attendance.

...Needless to say, this was the first and last attempt by the USPS in producing and selling holiday cards.
While not vintage, below is a small sampling of holiday cards currently listed in the Postal Store on the USPS website.

I've begun pulling together the next issue of the Forum's Newsletter as I sit in an upstairs bedroom while a new floor is being installed on my homes main level. Content is relatively light thus far so, if you are working on something, please let me know ASAP.

Received two more sheets of the 2019 seals in a mailing that arrived at some point during the past week. The format differs from that shown above (7 rows of 8 seals each) but the seals themselves remain the same.

Dale,
Welcome to our Forum!
I'm sorry it took me so long to see your intro and update your membership status -- you are now able to post elsewhere on the Forum.
I am originally from Cicero but now reside in Northern Virginia. My Mother is still in my childhood home and I've got siblings living in Naperville, Custer Park and Bourbonnais.
Please let me know if you have any questions or encounter problems.
Are you planning on attending Chicagopex later this month?

I use black split backs to mount my U.S. collection in a National album and have been using clear mounts, selectively, when mounting in the Scott Internationals. When I first started, I used scissors and a homemade template. Life changed, for the better, when I started using a guillotine.

I've been preoccupied trying to get the house ready for a new floor install so haven't really done much of anything stamp-wise. I was, however, able to acquire another item for my postal savings collection -- an unused deposit card (Scott PS2; Jan 3, 1911) with the design of the 10 cent orange stamp (Scott PS1) imprinted on the card. Also, I was finally able to get the attention of the gent who sold me the misidentified General Sherman. He ignored two separate messages sent through the Hipstamp system so I went to the Paypal resolution center for assistance. Not surprisingly, he responded to one of the Hipstamp emails the following day.

anglobob , I believe it reads "Found in P.S. without content" -- with P.S. representing Postal System. Here is a retroReveal image of the marking.

Quoting a post is allowed when it is necessary for understanding; however, it can also clutter the forum when used inappropriately. Below was appended to the article Quoting a Post that was published in the Forum's Newsletter, Volume 3, Issue 3: If you haven't yet read the article in that newsletter, I suggest they do so -- it begins on page 7 and provides detailed "how to" instructions..

The AWOL General Sherman arrived on Monday, in the company of an unused duck and two mint postal savings stamps. Unlike Frog, the stamp had a watermark (Scott 272, not 257) so I am not a happy stamper!

Below is a Hasler digital meter frank from the WJ-65/-95 model series featuring a large 2-dimensional Datamatrix barcode at left, meter number at top right above value figures, date, and town line, with US POSTAGE at bottom. Hasler reads up between the barcode and text. This meter stamp is identified as QA4.2 in the U.S. Postage Meter Stamp Catalog (SB4B in the 2001 edition). The meter numbers begin with a "012H16", "016H16", or "016H26" prefix.
